Who is Bill Hammond?

Bill Hammond is the founder of the Monday Group, the Lee County high school students whose ballot initiative in 1976 led to the preservation of the Slough.Bill has conducted journaling workshops ranging from classes of preschoolers to weeklong retreats for Fortune 100 corporate executives.

Are you providing journaling and art material?

We will have limited graphic art supplies available and a few journal books. For the ultimate experience, bring your own blank journal book and your preferred art supplies, for example, a watercolor set, acrylic paints and brushes, colored markers, crayons, colored pencils, or watercolor pencils.

What may I expect of this once in a lifetime workshop?

Bill's flexible approach allows for a wide range of journaling styles — whether traditional or innovative. His method thoughtfully integrates classic techniques with modern insights from human brain research, offering a dynamic blend that encourages creativity, mindfulness, and self-discovery.

Should I bring lunch?

Yes, please bring a lunch to enjoy while sharing your journaling experiences with your fellow journalers.

What should I bring?

• Bring a blank journal book, preferably unlined. If you can’t get one, a few will be available at the workshop. • Bring at least two permanent ink pens (preferably black) and two sharp pencils with different leads.

How do I prepare for the outdoors activities?

• Dress for the weather and bring a hat. It could be hot and might rain. Be prepared to walk the boardwalk in the rain. Although bugs are seldom an issue, feel free to bring insect repellent. • Bring water or a container to hold water. You don’t want to become dehydrated.

Do I have to pay for parking?

Lee County Parks and Recreation parking pass holders - no parking fee. Parking fee for non-parking pass holders is $5 for the day.

Is there a minimum age requirement?

All ages are welcome. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
