About the Learning Series:

Back by popular demand, Jonathan Martinis is back in region 11 to speak on the Supported Decision-Making Model! Whether you are a parent, advocate, educator, or related practitioner, we invite you to Join SST-11, and disabilities legal expert, Jonathan Martinis, Esq., J.D., for a learning series focused on Education, Employment, and Independent Living- through the Supported Decision-Making Model.

There will be 3 sessions on the following dates. You must register for each event individually.

  • November 10, 2022 (Virtual)
  • December 1, 2022 (Virtual)
  • April 5, 2023 (Hybrid/ At the ESC of Central Ohio)

Session 1

“Supported Decision-Making: From Justice for Jenny to Justice for All “

November 10, 2022 - 12:30 PM -3:30 PM – virtually via Zoom

Session 1, will introduce you to the theory and practice of Supported- Decision Making (SDM). When individuals with disabilities use SDM, they work with friends, families, and professionals so they can understand their choices, and make their own decisions. As a result, SDM can help people become self-determined, have better life outcomes, and avoid unnecessary guardianship. Come ready to be informed, empowered, and inspired!

Session 2

“Refresher/ Follow-up/ Q&A”

December 1, 2022 – 9:30 AM -11:00 AM- virtually via Zoom

This session will include a reiteration of material from the November session, as well as a continuation of the Supported Decision Model. Mr. Martinis will also have built in time for questions and answers around pertinent discussion topics.

Session 3

“Group Focus Sessions”

April 5, 2023- These sessions will be offered in a hybrid model via Zoom with Mr. Martinis on site held at the ESC of Central Ohio located at 2080 Citygate Drive, Columbus, OH 43219


  • Part 1: 9:30 AM -11:30 AM Combined informational Session- “Special Education & Vocational Rehabilitation”
  • Lunch/Break: 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM
  • Part 2: 12:30 PM-2:00 PM “Health Care and Life Planning”
  • Break: 15 minutes
  • Part 3: 2:15 PM-3:45 PM “Bringing it All Together: Creating Coordinated Support Systems”
