About this event
Join Us: Shaping Inuit Data Governance in British Columbia
An essential online event for Inuit living in BC.
We invite you to an engaging presentation and insightful discussion focused on cocreating Inuit Data Governance in British Columbia. This session is a powerful opportunity for you to connect and actively contribute to a future where Inuit in BC are visible, vocal, and thriving.
Why Your Voice is Power:
This work matters deeply because good data governance is the pathway to better outcomes and supports for our community and families. Your voice in this process will help secure and strengthen:
- Access to essential services, including non-insured health benefits and counseling.
- Relevant cultural supports for your Inuit children in school and beyond.
- Programs that truly reflect the unique needs and strengths of Inuit living in BC.
Your Engagement is Part of a Larger Movement:
This engagement session is a critical step in a pathway we are co-creating. Together, we are taking steps to ensure that Inuit are visible in data, have a decisive voice in what data is collected and how the story is told. This collective work is about actively informing policies so they benefit, and do not harm, our community. It is an act of self-determination and relational ethics to ensure data serves our people.
As a gesture of respect and gratitude for your time, knowledge, and lived experience, a small honorarium will be provided upon completion of the session and evaluation.
Hosted by:
An event by Inuit living in BC for Inuit living in BC and in association with the Inuit Collective Society of BCmiut. The event is made possible by a grant from the Circle Way, and by the UBC School of Public Policy and Global Affairs in the form of a Fellowship.
Acknowledging:
We recognize, honor, and uphold the inherent rights and title of First Nations across the territories now called British Columbia. As Inuit, we are guests on these lands, and we commit to respectfully following the protocols of the First Peoples whose territories we live and gather on.
We walk alongside First Nations with deep respect and shared purpose: to actively support the health and social justice needs of Inuit living here, while affirming and upholding the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and Action Plan, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action in all our work. We recognize that many Inuit are displaced due to past and ongoing colonial violence.
We commit to prioritizing investment and partnership with First Nations businesses and organizations over Non-Indigenous partners, recognizing that we claim no right to the lands or culture of which we are guests. Our collective intent is to facilitate essential services and connections for Inuit living in BC.
