Interdisciplinary artist and School of Visual Arts Professor Joan Giroux, whose practice frequently provides context for community and personal reflections on loss, absence, and bereavement through active play and participation, introduces her work. Strengths and fragilities of the body and reflections on empathy, compassion, and mortality have long informed Giroux's multimodal artistic practice. She describes her investigations as a 2025 Fulbright-British Library Eccles Institute Scholar, researching primary source material for an artist's book about a good death, as well as presenting her collaboration with Alice Maude-Roxby cocurating the exhibition Channeling body < Image > viewer currently at the Museum of Contemporary Photography.
