About this Event

JIM MORRISON, ALBERT EINSTEIN, AND THE SHOCKINGLY SIMPLE SOLUTION TO THE QUANTUM ENIGMA

What does Jim Morrison have to do with Albert Einstein and Quantum Theory? Everything.

Who should listen to The Doors if they are interested in Self-Discovery? Everyone.

Prepare yourself for an evening of entertainment and learning like no other. Taking you inside the deep and complex music of Jim Morrison and The Doors, MIT grad David Shiang shows how Morrison's "gold mine" is equivalent to Stephen Hawking's yet-to-be-found "mind of God." And Morrison's massive and monumental discovery contains the the shockingly simple solution to the quantum enigma, a problem that has befuddled and bedeviled physicists for more than 100 years.

In this unique tour of songs such as When The Music's Over, The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat), Soul Kitchen, Light My Fire, The Soft Parade, and The End, Jim Morrison meets Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Stephen Hawking, Richard Feynman, T. S. Eliot, William Shakespeare, Yoda, and other luminaries.

In The Quantum Enigma: Physics Encounters Consciousness, Bruce Rosenblum and Fred Kuttner write, "Perhaps the particular expertise and talents of physicists does not uniquely qualify us for its comprehension. We physicists might therefore approach the problem with modesty, though we find that hard." Regardless of how modest (or immodest) physicists are, it turns out that many of their assertions about a nature filled with probability, chance, and randomness are based on pure assumption, not experimental evidence. Stephen Hawking and his colleagues claim that evidence shows randomness to be a fundamental feature of reality, but such a viewpoint is based on a sophisticated labyrinth of incorrect and inaccurate thinking. Shiang will unravel this Ariadne's thread of confusion and show that the physicist's world is far from the "paragon of objectivity" claimed.

"this theory reminds me a little of the system of delusions of an exceedingly intelligent paranoic, concocted of incoherent elements of thought." - Albert Einstein, 1952

TOPICS COVERED

- Why The Doors represent an escape to reality, not an escape from reality

- Jim Morrison's use of Sophocles and Freud to position himself as Oedipus, solver of the Riddle of the Sphinx

- False logic in the work of Brian Greene, Stephen Hawking, Richard Feynman, Richard Dawkins, and more

- Turning the tables on the Sokal Hoax, "the sham that shook the academy"

- Why a full 2/7 of Carlo Rovelli's Seven Brief Lessons on Physics is fatally flawed

- Mr. Whipple ("Please don't squeeze the Charmin") as the patron saint of probabilistic thinking

- Absolute proof that women have the ability to do elite science (Larry, please take note)

- Why Einstein was right when he said "God Does Not Play Dice"

- The correct and only solution to what has been called the "most profound quantum mystery"

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

David Shiang is the author of God Does Not Play Dice: the Fulfillment of Einstein's Quest for Law and Order in Nature, Jim Morrison and the Secret Gold Mine: Breaking Through The Doors to Hidden Reality and the Mind of God, and other works. He holds degrees from MIT and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and was a Danforth Fellow in the English PhD program at UC Berkeley. His writing has been praised by Sir Karl Popper, David Bohm, Ray Manzarek, and other luminaries. See David Shiang's entry in The Information Philosopher, by Harvard Astronomer Bob Doyle.
