Jasper-Pulaski FWA Cranes and Raptors Field Trip
Overview
***We've had an enthusiastic response, and this event is now full. You're welcome to join the waitlist in case a spot becomes available. Group size is limited to 15 to ensure a great experience for everyone.
Join Indiana Audubon member Katey Powell, Northwest Indiana land steward with The Nature Conservancy in Indiana, for a morning exploring the best birding spots around Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area (JPFWA).
We'll start with a quick scan from the crane viewing platform, then caravan to several nearby sites, including the NIPSCO ponds in Wheatfield and surrounding agricultural fields. This area hosts thousands of Sandhill Cranes, and November often brings chances for Whooping Cranes and regularly produces Golden Eagles and other raptors.
The total time is three to four hours, finishing before lunch. Meet at the main crane viewing platform parking lot at JPFWA. We'll begin birding promptly at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time, so plan to arrive a few minutes early.
Participants may arrive at 7:00 a.m. to watch the cranes depart from the marshes at sunrise before the field trip begins.
Registration
Registration is required and limited to 15 participants. Event tickets are $5 per person for Indiana Audubon members and $10 per person for non-members, plus Eventbrite fees.

Accessibility
Much of the tour will consist of roadside birding, caravan driving, and short 1/4 mile or less walks that may have some uneven terrain, and thus may not be fully accessible for all mobility levels. The crane observation platform is wheelchair accessible.
