Event description
James and the Giant Peach is a fun, fantastical, family musical based on the beloved children’s literature classic by Roald Dahl.

About this event

Brunswick Little Theatre is instituting a mandatory mask policy for all patrons, vaccinated or unvaccinated. Masks are required in all spaces of the theater. This policy is in response to the increased instances of COVID-19, and our concern for the safety and welfare of our community. For your protection, theater seating has been placed farther away from the stage and we continue to follow disinfecting protocols. We will continue to reevaluate the policy for each show.

James and the Giant Peach is a fun, fantastical, family musical based on the beloved children’s literature classic by Roald Dahl. Dahl is the author of other classics including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , The BFG, and Matilda. The spirited and tuneful score displays musical styles ranging from beautiful ballads to driving rock, to Latin, and swing. Music is by the Tony Award, and Golden Globe winning team of Pasek and Paul who composed music for a number of movies including La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and the Broadway hit, Dear Evan Hanson. The musical’s quirky book is by Timothy McDonald.

Mr. Dahl’s tale is full of characters with over sized personalities who are on a “fan-tas-ma-ri-fic” adventure where “whimsy and wonder” are all that is needed to have a rollicking good time. Join us at Brunswick Little Theatre as we set off on this “scrumptious and scary” tall tale.

Organizer Brunswick Little Theatre

Organizer of James and the Giant Peach JR

Brunswick Little Theatre is the result of three friends sharing a glass or two of wine and pleasant conversation. Patricia Foy, Stuart Callari, and Gloria Yount were the three local women who discovered their mutual love of theater and determined that a community theater was needed in the Southport area in 1983. Within a few months the newly formed company produced its first musical Brigadoon in 1983. This first show was presented in Hatch Auditorium at the Baptist Assembly on Caswell Beach and for several years afterward the company performed and rehearsed in various venues around town, including the Jaycee Building, the Alderman’s chambers at Southport City Hall, the Centennial Center, OWA, and our present home, 8068 River Road. You may remember their community shows in Franklin Square Park as well.

Thirty three years and hundreds of productions later, Brunswick Little Theatre is still entertaining, educating, and enriching the community by producing plays, musicals, revues and offering workshops involving community members of all ages.

The theatre group at "BLT" has expanded its horizons to include talented actors and actresses, directors and musicians from Brunswick County and beyond.  In 2002 it added the Stagestruck Players as the youth performance division and this troupe has a long and proud tradition of productions that belie the age of the performers. (Grease, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr, Shrek, Into the Woods, and more)

Additionally, the Musical Theater Apprentice Program is an intensive study of musical theater for ages twelve through eighteen.  Students spend a minimum of two and a half hours each Saturday of the school year in class working in the areas of vocal production, acting and movement.  They present an end of the year Revue, which is a variety show that includes comedic sketches, excerpts from musicals, small ensemble numbers and solos.

This year is a fundraising year for Brunswick Little Theatre.   The goal is to purchase/own this building so we have a permanent home in which we can continue offering quality performances and entertainment, and expand programming and education for both youth and adults. We hope you will support our performances with your continued attendance and donate to the capital campaign. If you become a  "100" Club Member by contributing a minimum of $2500, you will be permanently recognized on our lobby plaque (and other perks come with this!).

BLT is a 501C3, an all volunteer organization, governed by a board, that is dedicated to promoting theater in Brunswick County, building on the company’s past successes and supporting its promising future.

Thanks to you, our theatre patrons, for the years of support!  We so appreciate you!
