About this event

Community • Heritage

Jacobitism was a military, political, and cultural movement that sought to restore James VII and II, and later the Stuart dynasty, to the thrones of Scotland, England and Wales, and Ireland. Yet for those involved, it was also often intensely personal, with those who pledged their loyalty to the Jacobites, or the Whig regime, driven by a range of motivations. This talk will explore the North Highlands’ experiences of the Jacobite era (1688-1766), considering what drove clans, or individuals, to declare for one side or another and how this changed over the eighteenth century.
