Iyengar yoga is a meditative, precise, and challenging kind of yoga that aims to awaken and realign body and mind through sequences that follow a narrative structure, across each class and across the whole workshop. It differs from other forms of yoga in its precision, and in its extensive use of props that permit advanced asanas even by novice practitioners.
Dmitri Shapira is a core faculty member of the Iyengar Institute of New York. He has been teaching for twenty years and has made multiple trips to India to study under B.K.S. Iyengar, the founder of Iyengar yoga, and other members of the Iyengar family. He was first drawn to yoga for its physical benefits, but stayed for its ability to steady the mind in uncertain times. He is also an accomplished musician.
