Is Tucson Ready to Read?

By AZPM

Overview

Learning to read is one of the biggest steps in a child’s education.

This event is free and open to the public. If you are able, we welcome a suggested donation of $10 to help support AZPM community events.

Be part of this important community conversation about early childhood literacy and the critical role reading by third grade plays in long-term success.

Reserve your seat now for an engaging discussion on early childhood education and how our community can support student success, moderated by Tom McNamara, host of Arizona Illustrated.

Panelists:

Jill Castek, Ph.D. Professor, University of Arizona, TLS Department Literacy, Technology & Bi/multilingual Learners & STEM Education

Sharon O’Brien Executive Director, Literacy Connects

Lori Masseur Director of Early Learning, Read On Arizona

Learning to read is one of the most important milestones in a child’s education. Currently, only 37.4% of Arizona’s 3rd grade students score Proficient or Highly Proficient on the Arizona Academic Standards Assessment (AASA). When children fall behind early, catching up becomes significantly harder.

We encourage attendees to bring a new or gently used K–3rd grade book and/or a warm sweater in support of the TUSD Family Resource Centers.
