Event description

Description

As part of the Irish Quantum Foundations 2018 conference, we are delighted to host two special public lectures:

  • Prof. Duncan Haldane (Nobel Laureate in Physics 2016) will give a talk entitled "Entanglement: Einstein's gift to quantum mechanics".

  • Dr. Sabine Hossenfelder will give a talk on her recent book "Lost in Math: How Beauty Leads Physics Astray".

About the speakers:

Prof. Haldane is a British born physicist who is currently the Sherman Fairchild University Professor of Physics at Princeton University, and a Distinguished Visiting Research Chair at Perimeter Institue for Theoretical Physics. He was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physics with David J Thouless and John Michael Kosterlitz for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter.

Dr. Hossenfelder is a theoretical physicist at the Frankfurt Institute of Advanced Studies. She is a freelance science writer and author of the book "Lost in Math: How Beauty Leads Physics Astray". Sabine's research focuses on the foundations of physics and, in particular, quantum gravity, but her interests extend to the philosophy and sociology of science. Since 2006, she has been writing the very popular blog Backreaction.
