Inverted poses are considered to be among the most powerful poses for daily practice, but they do not have to be restricted for only the advanced yogi. No matter where you are in your practice, you can experience the benefits that inversions offer - they boost the immune system and teach you how to pull to the center of yourself in order to feel balanced and confident both on and off the mat.
Iyengar says, “teach the hard things in the easy poses, so that in the hard poses things become easy.” So before turning our bodies and our perspective upside-down, we will first create a safe space by covering key elements of inversions while we are still right-side up. We will then physically move through core work and body alignment/placement that are specific to Sirsasana (head stand) and Sarvangasana (shoulder stand). After this warmup we will build each asana from the ground up, establishing the essential elements for these two inversion postures. No matter where you are in your inversion journey, modifications/variations will be offered to build confidence for the beginner and to challenge and strengthen the seasoned practitioner. After this workshop you will have the skills needed to pursue your own daily inversion practice.
