Honey Judge Training & Certification (Level 1 )

The American Honey Show Training Council will be holding Honey Judge Introductory Training Class at the 2026 Midwest Honey Bee Expo in Madison, WI. The Level 1 class will be held on Thursday, Februray 5, 2026.

Honey Judging is a fascinating, detail-oriented pursuit. If you like to learn, if you like to teach, if you like to see the coolest stuff before anyone else does, honey judging might be right for you! During this event, you'll learn about the science of honey judging, from the basics to advanced techniques. Our expert instructors will cover topics such as food safety and hygiene; proper harvesting, processing, and handling; honey show logistics and administration; and proper judging etiquette, ethics, and techniques.

Join us in Madison for an exciting in-person event! This training and certification program is perfect for honey enthusiasts looking to enhance their knowledge and skills. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced beekeeper, our comprehensive program is appropriate for any level of beekeeping experience!

This class is the first step on the road to becoming an AHSTC Certified Honey Judge! The Intro Training Class (Level 1) is a day-long event. At the conclusion of the Level 1 class, participants will be a certified Honey Judge Candidate. There are a number of steps Honey Judge Candidates must complete before becoming eligible to sit for the (Level 2) Certified Honey Judge Exam. It takes most individuals 12-18 months to complete the requirements to sit for the (Level 2) Certified Honey Judge Exam.

*This registration is separate from registration for the Bee Expo. YOU MUST ALSO REGISTER FOR THE MIDWEST HONEYBEE EXPO IN ADDITION TO REGISTERING FOR THIS HONEY JUDGE TRAINING. BEING REGISTERED FOR THE MIDWEST HONEYBEE EXPO IS A REQUIREMENT FOR ATTENDING THIS TRAINING CLASS. You can register for the Midwest Honeybee EXPO here!

*We will have a 45 minute break for lunch in the middle of the day. You have the option of ordering a box luch through us when you register. Alternatively, participants are free to leave the facility or to make what other arrangements they like for lunch on Thursday, but getting out, getting served, getting fed, and getting back to the classroom in 45 mins will likely be a challenge. We strongly encourage you take advantage of our box lunch option.
