This 2.5-hour workshop teaches how to use the large stationary woodworking machines in Clear Creek Makerspace. $35 per student ($28 for members).

This course does not cover the CNCs machine. Please register for WOOD150/151 CNC wood router and LAS101 or LAS301 CNC laser machines.

Partcipants will be introduced to each machine, provided operational overview, safety considerations, and have hands-on experience.

At the end of this course you will receive an email with an access code to the Woodshop Tool Test. Passing this short test is part of the requirement for members to gain personal woodshop access.

No prior experience needed for this course, all supplies and materials are provided.

Please wear comfortable well-fitted clothing, close-toed shoes, put your hair up, and be prepared to get a little dirty!

This is a combined course that covers the topics in Benchtop Basics and Processing Raw Lumber. You will learn the fundamentals of how to mill raw lumber and safely use the stationary woodworking equipment through hands-on experience. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this workshop covers essential techniques and tools for successful woodworking projects!

As part of the course, you'll learn:

  • Making a cut list and calculating board-feet
  • Best practices for labeling
  • Miter saw for rough cross cuts
  • Band saw for rough rip cuts
  • Jointing a face and edge
  • Planing for square and thickness
  • Ripping and cross cuts on a table saw
  • How to safetly use a router table
  • How to safetly use a drill press

Andrew Fahrland is a research scientist who lives in Golden, Colorado. He has been working as an engineer on aerospace and environmental science applications for 20 years, including instrumentation for monitoring undersea volcanoes, spaceflight instruments to measure water on the moon, and diagnostics for monitoring the health of rocket engines. Outside of work, Andrew loves making things as a creative outlet and enjoys dabbling in many different creative disciplines. He primarily practices woodworking, metalworking and sewing but is always trying to learn new ways of making things.

Will I be able to use Clear Creek Makerspace's woodshop after taking the class?

After you take this course, you will have the knowledge needed to pass the woodshop quiz. All you need after that is our safety orientation (SAF101) and membership, then you can use the woodshop!
