Introduction to Weaving: Weeklong Intensive with Jamie Boyle
Overview
Weeklong Intensive: Introduction to Weaving
Date: Monday, June 22 - Friday June 26
Time: 10am - 5pm (daily!)
Description:
Let's dive deep into weaving for a week!
This is a 100% beginner weaving workshop, where we will learn to use multi-harness floor looms to create cloth!
We will work with 8-harness looms, and explore myriad ways of creating interlacements of warp and weft to create cloth!
Because of the "intensive" format of this workshop, we will be able to immerse oursleves completely in the fun and magic of weaving and using a loom.
You can expect to learn how to go from having bunch of cones or balls of yarn to woven cloth! We will go through steps and ways to dress the loom (that means get the yarn on the loom) and we will try different techniques for interlacing yarn. We will look at drafts and patterns and we will talk some histories and other fun contexts too!
Our goal will be a woven sampler of possibilities and a foundation for future weaving work!
Tuition: $425 + $30 materials fee
Note: We really want you to join us in the studio! Full and partial tuition scholarships are available to offset some of the financial burden of attending a class.

About the Artist
Jamie Boyle is an artist and weaving teacher who recently moved back to Pittsburgh after living for more than a decade in a studio apartment in Brooklyn, NY with a partner and two cats. They attended public school from grade school through graduate school. Jamie's first weaving teacher was the artist Ann Hamilton, in whose studio they worked for several years after completing an MFA in sculpture. Subsequently, Owyn Marisol Ruck, Kira Silver, Isa Rodrigues, Kelly Valetta, and Jose Picayo taught Jamie who to use a multi-harness floor loom as a tool for weaving. They have had the great honor of sharing a love of weaving with communities of learners at the Park slope Center for Successful Aging, the National Council of Jewish Women NY Lifetime Learning Center, the Museum of Arts and Design, and the Textile Arts Center, among others. Jamie has participated in artist residencies at the Textile Arts Center (Brooklyn, NY); the Museum of Arts and Design (New York, NY); through the SU-CASA program administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council; and Contemporary Craft (Pittsburgh, PA). Currently, they serve as the Fibers Program Manager at Contemporary Craft.
