Description:

Social workers and other helping professionals inevitably encounter individuals who have experienced trauma. A foundational understanding of the nature of trauma and its impact provides the groundwork for developing the ability to effectively serve people who have experienced trauma. In this workshop, you will explore the general nature and impact of trauma.

*This workshop was formally titled Understanding Trauma. If you have already taken that course, you do not need to re-take this updated title.

Objectives:

As a result of this course, participants will be prepared to:

  1. Define traumatic stress and trauma
  2. Explore reactions to traumatic experiences and potential impact on daily life
  3. Introduce elements of trauma informed intervention at the individual and organizational levels.

CECHs: 2 Continuing Education Contact Hours. Trauma Informed Care Certificate Core Course.

Skill Level: Recommended for LMSW beginning, intermediate, and advanced skill levels.

Instructor: Tina Blaschke-Thompson, LMSW is a Senior Clinical Instructor and Coordinator of the Combat Veterans Certificate in the School of Social Work at Michigan State University. She is also the spouse of a United States Marine Corps Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran who has been significantly impacted by a high ACE score, PTS, Moral Injury, and suicidality.
