How do we respond to violence within our own communities without relying on the police, prisons or other state systems? This event will offer a basic introduction to and overview of the core concepts of transformative justice. It will be a space for participants to learn about transformative justice and how to begin thinking about community-based responses to violence.

¿Cómo respondemos a la violencia en nuestras propias comunidades sin depender de la policía, prisiones u otros sistemas del estado? Este evento ofrecerá una introducción básica a la justicia transformativa y sus conceptos fundamentales. Será un espacio participativo de aprendizaje sobre la justicia transformativa y como comenzar a pensar acerca de respuestas comunitarias a la violencia.

If you would like to register for the event using a free ticket and they are sold out, please join the waitlist. As free tickets open up, you will be notified by email to claim your spot. (Please note that there is a limited amount of time to claim free tickets as they become available, since we anticipate a large waitlist.) We have an active No One Turned Away For Lack Of Funds policy but please remember that space is limited.

We have a suggested ticket cost, but you are welcome to give a different amount: simply register for a free ticket and then use the donation option to give the amount you wish. We also have options for folks to help cover costs of additional free tickets as well.

We have created a tiered ticketing and donation system that allows you to support another person’s paid entry to this workshop. We have free tickets, and as more tickets are donated, the number of free tickets will increase. If we receive an average of $20 per ticket, our team of event organizers, interpreters, captioners, and facilitator can receive an equitable wage.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR / ACERCA DE LA FACILITADORA

Mia Mingus is a writer and community educator for transformative justice and disability justice. She is an abolitionist and a survivor who believes that we must move beyond punishment, revenge and criminalization if we are ever to effectively break generational cycles of violence and create the world our hearts long for. She is passionate about building the skills, relationships and structures that can transform violence, harm and abuse within our communities and that do not rely on or replicate the punitive system we currently live in.
