Session 1: What is the Science of Reading?
In this session, participants will learn about evidence-based practices that build foundational skills needed for future reading proficiency. These foundational skills can be taught to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in fun and engaging ways that support both the science of reading and joy of learning.
Session 2: Why It Goes Beyond Reading Every Day to a Child
Learning to read is not a natural process for all children and we need skilled early childhood professionals who know about the science of reading to help build future readers. In this session, you will learn phonological awareness skills and how these skills are essential for helping children learn how the alphabet works.
Session 3: Educating Parents/Families on the Science of Reading
Parents/Families are partners in a child's reading journey. After attending the first two sessions, early childhood professionals are now ready to educate parents/families about the importance of literacy development. This session will help you learn ways to teach others about the science of reading and how research helps inform our everyday experiences while working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
