Introduction to SPSS
Overview
This 3 hour beginner-level training is designed for those new to SPSS and aims to introduce the core functionalities of the program. Participants will learn how to use SPSS for basic data entry, cleaning, and analysis. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have practical skills to confidently handle basic statistical tasks, setting a foundation for more advanced applications in research and data analysis.
In order to achieve an optimal experience for all, attendance is limited to 10 participants. This course will be offered multiple times in the future (schedule pending). Requirements:
Attendees MUST have SPSS downloaded and ready to participate. The instructor is using version 29, but any version of SPSS will work for this course.
This interactive workshop is divided into two parts:
- Part 1 (9:30am - 11:00am): Introduction to SPSS Basics
- Part 2 (11:30am - 1:00pm): Hands-On Analysis
Workshop Goals:
- Understanding Variables and Data Management: Define and differentiate between Independent and Dependent Variables, and learn how to import, clean, and organize datasets in SPSS for analysis.
- Descriptive and Comparative Statistics: Compute descriptive measures (mean, median, standard deviation) and perform basic statistical tests such as t-tests and ANOVA to compare group means and assess differences.
- Correlation and Relationship Analysis: Explore relationships between variables using correlation coefficients to identify and interpret patterns in data.
