Introduction to Patents

Get an overview of patent concepts, including the 3 kinds of patents and a comparison with other types of intellectual property protection. Learn about the basic requirements for obtaining a United States patent and how to go beyond simple keyword searching to search by patent classification with the free search tools available from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (www.uspto.gov) and the European Patent Office (worldwide.espacenet.com).
