Introduction to Longsword Fencing- 4 week course

By Indes Ferox Gladio

Overview

An introductory series of classes designed to introduce new practitioners to historic fencing. No fencing experience or gear is required.

This is a four class intro series to Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) through longsword fencing. No experience or equipment is required to participate. This class is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive opportunity to play with swords, and learn the actual techniques of fighting with swords from medieval eras.

The classes will be hosted on four Thursdays in a row from 7:00pm-9:00pm, building upon each other.

Students will be exposed to fundamental fencing concepts, techniques, and nomenclature through the perspective of the Liechtenauer tradition. The goals are to develop a foundation of knowledge and skill and to prepare students for joining our broader collection of classes and practices, if students decide they want to further their study.

Students should bring a water bottle and wear attire appropriate for exercise. The classes are structured such that students do not need to wear fencing gear, but if you have gear please bring it.

We will supply training swords, with which students will strike coaches.

Progression beyond this class does require students to have their own equipment, specifically mask, gloves, and gorget. We will explain equipment and provide ample opportunities for students to try on gear for sizing, information about distributors, or the option to purchase from us at cost.
