Introduction to Fire Strategies
Overview
Join us for our November webinar (and the last one for 2025) where Branch President Joe Hart will be exploring the principles, processes, and applications of fire strategies - with a particular focus on retrospective fire strategies for existing buildings.
The session will begin with a 30-minute early careers session that outlines what a fire strategy is, its purpose within the design and regulatory process, and the essential components of a comprehensive fire strategy report.
This will be followed by a one-hour technical session delving deeper into both standard and retrospective fire strategies, exploring how engineering assessments are developed, reviewed, and applied across a range of building types and scenarios.
Delegates will gain awareness of:
- The role and purpose of a fire strategy within the design and approvals process
- Key legislation and regulatory frameworks, including Fire Safety Law and the Building Safety Act 2022
- The differences between prescriptive code-based design and performance-based fire engineering
- The process of developing and implementing retrospective fire strategies for existing buildings
This session will be of particular interest to professionals who regularly encounter fire strategy reports in their work, including those in approvals, fire risk assessment, facilities management, and building safety roles.
The webinar aims to build awareness and understanding of how complex fire engineering assessments are undertaken, providing attendees with practical insight into the reasoning and methodology behind modern fire strategies.
