Event description
Would you like to learn how to play folk with others? Then this is the workshop for you!

About this Event

This workshop is intended to guide the aspiring folk musician in playing sensitively and musically with others within the British folk repertoire and style.

The workshop will begin by introducing you to learning basic tunes by ear, and you will have the opportunity to play these tunes on your instrument in a no-pressure, encouraging atmosphere with like-minded music learners. If you’re looking forward to playing in sessions, we will look at putting tunes together in ‘sets’ for your own sessions at home or at the pub.

All (western-tuned) instruments and voices are welcome, but the workshop is aimed particularly at learners and interested amateurs who have had little or no opportunity to play with others.

The only requirement is a familiarity with your instrument in the (concert) keys of G and D major and A and E minor. Please get in contact if you’re not sure about your instrument’s transposition or if you have any other questions.

Good sight reading is not required… in fact we will be encouraging you to learn things by ear! (But don’t worry, the notation for all tunes will be available in between sessions as a memory jogger).

We look forward to hearing from you!
