This training is an introduction to eating disruptions. Participants will be informed and educated from an evidence-based and best practices approach to support enhanced competency and comfort when identifying and working with youth and families in care exhibit disordered eating and disruptive eating habits.


Participants will learn how to identify first signs of an unhealthy eating condition, as well as the first steps to take, when to refer to a higher level of care and how to provide protective factors against the development of an unhealthy eating habit. There will be discussion around the connection between food insecurity and eating disruptions so providers will learn new mediations to use with youth and families in care regarding eating difficulties as well as body image dissatisfaction.


Class Objectives: Provide 3-5 objectives (what knowledge, ideas or skills will participants explore, learn, and practice, etc during the training):


Participants will:


  • Learn how to identify eating disruptions, risk factors, warning signs and unique aspects of adolescent growth and development, as well as midlife and beyond.
  • Learn new care modalities to use for disordered eating and body image dissatisfaction in the healing setting.
  • Understand protective factors for youth and families in care.
  • Learn when to refer to a higher level of care, and what the various options are for eating disruptions including outpatient, partial-hospitalization, intensive outpatient, residential care and hospitalization.


How can participants utilize their new skills and knowledge after the training to reinforce their learning?


Participants will:


· Take their learning and share with their colleagues and peers to discuss resources in group and private settings with colleagues and youth and families in care.
