Introduction to Contact Improvisation

By Exit Map

Overview

Contact Improvisation is a form of dance where people explore moving together by listening, responding, and supporting one another. Join us!

What will we do?

In this gentle workshop, we’ll offer simple, playful ways to connect through movement. Contact Improvisation, also called CI, can include touch, sharing weight, or dynamic motion, but we will keep everything light, optional, and based on comfort.

We want this event to be accessible to all abilites, ages and backgrounds.

We will offer ways to mobilise your body to begin with which everyone adapts as needed. It is importnant that you choose how you want to move, and who you want to move with.

This is a chance to meet your neighbours, take a breath, and enjoy moving together. No dance experience needed—just curiosity and playfulness.

At the start of the event we will take time to introduce the practice and let you know how to play with adaptations or confidently saying 'no' in case you don't feel like dancing as close as your partner for instance or prefer to not lie on the ground which others might feel is possible for them. We all have different ways to move, feel ourselves in space and in connection with others.

Alongside feeling free to dance we also take care of our own needs and boundaries throughout.

We really hope you can make it!
