On the evening before our children will organize another Friday for Future, it might be a good idea to listen to a general introduction on Climate Change. Helsinki is a place where a lot of science on climate change is going on. Among many other things, Finland is hosting the Head Quarter of the Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) – a European Research Infrastructure that coordinates greenhouse gas measurements in 12 European countries. Werner Kutsch, the Director General of ICOS, will give an introduction on climate change and will provide insights in climate sciences. The presentation will provide actual knowledge on the climate system, the role of human greenhouse gas emissions, and on the ways to keep the increase of global temperature well below 2° C, as commonly accepted 2015 in the Paris Agreement.

Werner Kutsch is climate and ecosystem scientist and has worked for more than 20 years on greenhouse gas budgets of ecosystems in Germany and several African countries. Since 2014, he is based in Helsinki and coordinates the ICOS efforts to provide knowledge for better climate action in Europe.
