Have you heard about Bitcoin, but aren't sure how it works, or what all the fuss is about? At the Intro to Bitcoin class, the Founder of Bitcoin Chattanooga, Jason Sellers, will demystify this new form of money, explain why we need it, and help you receive your first small pieces of bitcoin.

This class is about bitcoin only, not crypto in general. It focuses on why and how to use bitcoin for saving and spending, not trading.

Please bring a smartphone to the class and a mind ready to learn!

About the teacher:

Jason Sellers moved to the Chattanooga area from Texas in 2014. He discovered Bitcoin in 2015, shortly after learning about the problems caused by the Federal Reserve. He worked as a FedEx delivery driver for several years, which allowed him to dive deep into Bitcoin education, through podcasts and audiobooks. In 2018, Jason started and managed an online Bitcoin discussion group, where he regularly shared Bitcoin knowledge and news. In 2021, he had to leave FedEx for medical reasons, and he started the local Bitcoin meetup, Bitcoin Chatt.

From 2022 to early 2025, Jason worked for a couple Bitcoin companies, one building a wallet app for people in developing countries, and another that created an AI that was trained on all Bitcoin knowledge. In early 2025, Jason visited El Salvador, where bitcoin is used regularly as money, and he met people there from around the world who had created bitcoin circular economies in their own home towns. Inspired to do something like that here, Jason returned home, and tuned his Bitcoin meetup into a nonprofit, dedicated to teaching Chattanoogans about Bitcoin, helping local businesses accept it for payment, and providing short-term jobs where people can get paid in it.

Jason lives in Rossville with his wife and 6 children. He enjoys hiking, reading, stargazing, playing games, and of course, talking about Bitcoin.
