Start your journey toward discovering your family history with an introduction to Ancestry Library Edition, a free database available at all Indianapolis Public Library locations. By the end of the class, you should be able to: explore Ancestry’s Learning Center; do a basic search of the Card Catalog, Historical Records and U.S. Census databases; open a Family Tree posted by another Ancestry user; collect records by printing, saving to a flash drive, and emailing to self; locate and print family history forms. In addition, you will learn how to access genealogy learning materials through eResources such as OverDrive eBooks, Zinio for Libraries (eMagazines), and the Hobbies and Craft Reference Center (electronic database).
Class size is limited to 12 participants and will be held in Central Library's Computer Training Lab. Participants should have experience using a computer, keyboard, mouse, and websites.
Parking is available in Central Library's underground parking garage which can be accessed via Pennsylvania Street on the east side of the Library. To view parking rates, please visit http://www.indypl.org/locations/central/, Central Library's webpage. Metered parking is available on streets surrounding the Library.
Free flash drives preloaded with family history forms will be provided to class participants. These are made possible by Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.
