You might not know how AI works, but you’ve heard it’s incredible: It will magically solve all of your problems, without any effort on your part! It will render superior judgments at a scale you could never comprehend! And somewhere along the way, AI will snap up your job, too! In this short course, participants will learn basic principles of AI, what it can do, and what’s just hype. Then, we build an informed understanding of how AI can transform your organization to yield enduring results. We apply these building blocks with a “hands-on” approach to generate winning use cases, and then prioritize them within an AI Playbook. Finally, we align the playbooks with strategic vision at your organization and practice how to message and execute on the strategy at your organization.
Course Objectives:
- Understand the difference between artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data science. Cut through the hype to understand what AI can -- and can’t -- do.
- Discover how AI can create process efficiencies and new insights.
- Collaborate with peers to identify AI use cases, using SDI’s AI Use Case Framework.
- Practice your ability to communicate and align your AI with your strategic vision.
- Strategize on how to employ artificial intelligence technologies in the modern era, where ethical, legal, and social concerns are at the forefront.

About Dr. Joseph Sutherland:
Joe is the Head of Data Science at Search Discovery, where he leads groundbreaking data science initiatives for a diverse clientele of Fortune 500 and startup clients, including Coca-Cola, UPMC, JPMorganChase, Goldman Sachs, and Marriott. His academic research is published in top peer-reviewed outlets and received a citation from the National Science Foundation in 2017. From 2011-2013, Joe worked in the Obama White House. He holds a PhD, MPhil, and Masters from Columbia University, along with a Bachelors from Washington University in St. Louis.
