About the Course:
This class will help students transition from strict realism into abstraction, all while discussing and thinking about the art historical norms that brought the art revolution of the 20th century.
Students will explore key artists in the journey toward abstraction and their unique motivations for their work - including Picasso, Braque, Matisse, Mondrian, and more!
Students will work on building their drawing skills with charcoal, pencil, and pastels by studying still life installations, practicing gestural sketches, and experimentation with materials!
Students will have the opportunity to challenge themselves to think differently about the mark they leave on the page as they explore the concepts of flatness, simplification, and abstraction.
