Introducing the UK Linguistics Olympiad
Overview
The UK Linguistics Olympiad is a national language-analysis competition for students in KS2-KS5. Free to enter, the UKLO contains language puzzles that test pattern recognition, lateral thinking, logic, and problem-solving skills. This provides an opportunity to apply formal reasoning from STEM subjects such as maths to the context of both first-language English and additional languages. Students do not need pre-existing language knowledge to solve the problems.
This online session for teachers will outline how the UKLO works, including the sign-up process and key dates. We will cover some example problems, and explore the skills and benefits for students. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about the UK Linguistics Olympiad at the end.
