About this event
In this one-day immersion, Lydia Violet Harutoonian will lead an introduction to facilitating the “Work that Reconnects,” Joanna Macy’s experiential group work. Lydia will offer skills and resources for conducting community process metabolizing climate anxiety and empowering action.
This facilitator training supports emerging and intermediate facilitators in deepening their theoretical understanding of Joanna Macy’s work and its context in contemporary social and ecological issues. Participants will leave with tools for facilitating the foundational exercises of the Work that Reconnects, as well as personal plans for further development, resourcing, and education.
Over the course of the day, Lydia will cover “The Spiral” of the Work that Reconnects: moving through Gratitude, Honoring our Pain, Seeing in New/Ancient Ways, and Going Forth. This roadmap has provided thousands of past participants with psychological resourcing when facing the most pressing challenges of our time, and is central to the skills and teachings the "Work That Reconnects" offers. Articles and readings will be provided beforehand.
Lydia Violet is joyously committed to sharing this work with others, conjuring integrity and deep emotional resources for our time. Lydia serves as a dedicated keeper and steward of the lineage of deep ecology elder and wisdom keeper Joanna Macy. After fifteen years of sustained study and mentorship in Joanna Macy’s Work that Reconnects, as well as immersion in systems theory and anti-oppression education, Lydia is a vital BIPOC facilitator supporting the continuation with integrity of Joanna Macy’s teachings. Lydia shares from her experience of facilitating hundreds of WTR workshops over the past decade, internationally.

About the organizer
Lydia founded and runs The School for The Great Turning, an online and in-person school that creates access to an education that will empower humanity's life-sustaining legacy through fostering personal empowerment and planetary care. Our courses encourage personal transformation towards becoming mutually beneficial members of the Earth Community. We support learning at both individual and community levels, committed to soul work, ecological literacy, and social justice. Our courses and workshops center on empowering the legacy of Joanna Macy's scholastic and experiential work, while expanding to cover adrienne maree brown's "Emergent Strategy," anti-racism cohorts, BIPOC affinity groups, ancestral myth and music studies, and music as medicine. Our scholarship fund empowers us to make our programming no-one-turned-away-for-lack-of-funds, as we democratize access to education and healing, especially within marginalized communities. Our faculty includes Joanna Macy, adrienne maree brown, Lyla June, Leah Song, Lydia Violet Harutoonian, Amikaeyla Gaston, Kele Nitoto, and MaMuse, and we aim to offer our programming in a wide range of spaces, pivoting away from educational elitism. We believe each of us has a role to play in human awakening at this perilous time, urging us to claim our role in The Great Turning. A term coined by revolutionary thinker and resident elder, Joanna Macy, she describes The Great Turning as one name for the essential adventure of our time: the shift from an Industrial Growth Society to a life-sustaining civilization.
