Intro to Woodworking Workshop:
Overview
Create a beautiful and functional piece for your home — a wooden napkin holder inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountains. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn some fundamentals of woodworking while designing and cutting your own layered mountain silhouette.
Over the course of one 4-hour session, we’ll cover:
- Tool safety and operation basics
- Measuring and cutting with the miter saw and scroll saw
- Shaping, sanding, and gluing your layers for a clean, polished finish
Each participant will leave with a completed napkin holder featuring a unique mountain-range design. This is a great beginner-friendly project for anyone wanting to build confidence with power tools and create something both practical and artful.
Safety & What to Bring
Safety glasses will be provided. Please wear close-toed shoes and avoid loose clothing or dangling jewelry. The workshop space can get chilly, so dress in layers and come prepared for cooler temperatures.
Equitable Access
We believe everyone deserves access to hands-on learning opportunities, regardless of income. That’s why each workshop includes a limited number of Equitable Access seats.
To help us share these opportunities widely:
- Each participant may claim an Equitable Access seat once per quarter (every three months).
- These spots are first-come, first-served and limited by class size.
- If you’ve already used an equitable seat this quarter, we ask that you register at full price so others can benefit.
Please only claim these tickets if cost is truly a barrier for you — this helps ensure that those who need the support most can take part.
Each person may use an equitable seat once per quarter so we can continue sharing opportunities widely.
