About this event

All DIYD workshops have Pay What You Can ticket options.

If the Full Cost Ticket is financially comfortable for you, we ask that you purchase this ticket to help DIYD offset the costs of workshop expenses.

If the Full Cost Ticket is a stretch for you at this time, choose a lower cost ticket that suits your financial capacity. Choose the “Pay What You Can” option to purchase a ticket for as low as $1.

If you would like to make a donation to DIYD, choose the 125% cost ticket option or use the Pay What You Can option to make a donation of any amount. (And thank you!)

For more information about how DIYD uses the revenue from ticket costs, scroll down to our FAQ section below.

About the Workshop:

In our Intro to Welding workshop we will cover the basics of welding using a MIG Welder and all attendees will have the opportunity to weld their own small take-home item. We’ll start by covering the basics of how welding works, understanding the applications of welding, and what precautions are necessary to weld safely. Every participant will have the chance to practice a bead or line of a weld and learn how to safely cut scrap metal, before we embark on welding our small take-home items.

About the teacher:

My name is Anna Petersen. I’m an artist living and crafting in the Ohio Valley. Born and raised in Cincinnati, I left home to pursue an education at the Columbus College of Art & Design. After graduating in 2013 and receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, I was brought on as an artist for Optic Nerve Art Corp., a company that specializes in creative environmental installations. They’ve provided me with many opportunities to learn new skills, collaborate with other artists, and travel to places I’ve never been.

Since moving back home to Cincinnati, I’ve managed to amass an arsenal of tools and set up my own workshop. In between jobs with Optic Nerve, I’ve been developing my own personal projects and establishing myself as a freelance maker. I currently also work as the Technical Director for the theatre at Milford Highschool. I’m proficient in a broad spectrum of skills, from welding and woodworking, to costuming and faux finishes.

About Do It Yourself Darlin Workshops:

Do It Yourself Darlin (DIYD) hosts educational, hands-on home repair workshops for new and veteran homeowners, renters, and everyone in between. The program aims to empower anyone and everyone to feel comfortable and confident understanding the components that make up a house while learning home repair and tool use skills along the way. All of DIYD‘s workshops are geared toward beginners, pay-what-you-can, taught by local Cincinnati craftspeople, and open to everyone ages 16 and up.

DIYD is a program of the non-profit CDC Price Hill Will. DIYD’s programming is made possible through grant funding, sponsorships, donations, and workshop ticket sales.

Frequently asked questions

What is my ticket money paying for?

Since DIYD is a non-profit, most of DIYD’s general expenses are paid for via grants, sponsorships, and individual donations. Ticket sales help us to offset the costs of specific workshop expenses, such as teacher fees and workshop materials.

Why should I make a donation to DIYD beyond the full cost of a ticket?

If you are able to make a donation to DIYD beyond the cost of the general admission ticket, your donation will help DIYD continue to offer the “pay-what-you-can” ticket model for attendees for whom the cost of admission would be a barrier to entry.

What is the class size at a DIYD workshop?

Class size in workshops typically ranges from 5 to 15 people, depending on the topic.

Can I bring my child with me to the workshop?

Unless we are explicitly offering childcare, we ask that you do not bring children under 16 to our workshops as our venue is not child-safe and there is no space for them to spend time during the workshop. Children over the age of 16 are welcome to join as a workshop participant.

What should I wear to the workshop?

We strongly recommend that participants wear close-toed, comfortable shoes, and durable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty or dusty. If you have long hair, it is recommended that you bring a hair tie to put it up during the hands-on portions of the workshops.

Do I need to bring my own tools?

DIYD will provide all tools and safety equipment for all participants at each workshop. If you do have your own tools, we encourage you to bring them to a tool-specific workshop if you’d like the opportunity to learn more about the tools you already have.
