How do we create dance specifically for the camera? What tools can we use to choreograph the camera itself? How can editing shape the rhythm and feeling of movement?

In this immersive workshop, students will dive into the foundational elements of screendance—reimagining choreography through the lens of film. Through hands-on practice and creative experimentation, participants will learn how to frame movement, consider the camera as a partner in choreography, and explore how editing choices influence time, space, and energy.

By the end of the workshop, each student will have filmed and edited their own short screendance piece, gaining practical skills in:

  • Camera knowledge and movement
  • Basic cinematography and film language
  • Video editing skills

Whether you're a dancer, choreographer, or filmmaker, this workshop will give you new tools to create, document, and share your work in powerful and imaginative ways.

What to bring:

  • A phone- we will use our phones as devices to film
  • A computer or tablet if you have one to edit- if not, you can edit on your phone!
  • A notebook and pen
