About this event
Instructor - Catherine Karp
Catherine is a retired art teacher who loves textiles and teaching hand stitching techniques. I have been stitching since I was very young and love to share my knowledge and experience. I have been teaching visible mending and more recently Sashiko.
Class Description
A basic introduction to the Japanese traditional method of Sashiko, a traditional Japanese embroidery technique primarily known for its simple, geometric patterns created using a running stitch. It's often used to decorate and reinforce fabric, particularly on clothing, and is classically featured on indigo-dyed fabrics with white thread. I will show students how to use a grid, how to make a grid, and how to sew basic patterns. All materials will be provided. A kit including a needle, needle threader, and threads, along with a transfer material will be available to purchase after the class.
Material Fee
The materials fee for this class is $12. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class.
