Intro to Quilting - May 2026

By Factory 3 Makerspace

Overview

Learn the steps of making a small quilt from start to finish. Emphasis on completion, not perfection!

Learn to make a quilt with Travis! This four-week class will take you through the steps of making a small quilt from start to finish: cutting, strip-piecing, assembling the top & layers, quilting, and basting. Homework will be required each week to be ready for the next step. Emphasis will be on completion, not perfection!

Each student receives a “Quilt Kit” to use for the duration of the class, consisting of a sewing machine and basic quilting tools. A fabric supply list for students to purchase will be sent out upon registration. No quilting experience needed, but prior experience threading a sewing machine and making a bobbin is helpful. Take Intro to Sewing at Factory 3 if you need an intro!

Thursdays, May 7, 14, 21, & 28, 6:00-8:00 pm.

Six spots available; minimum of four to run the class.

Travis (he/they) is a queer and trans bag maker and quilter who comes from a large family of Maine quilters. He started making quilts in 2008 and started teaching Intro to Quilting in 2016 in Portland, Oregon. When he's not quilting, you can find him canoeing the wilderness lakes of Maine or picking his banjo on his porch in Westbrook.
