Discover the rhythm and structure of calligraphy while learning to see letterforms in a new way. This workshop introduces the fundamentals of pointed pen calligraphy through the lens of historical Copperplate script—a formal yet fluid style that encourages precision, rhythm, and creative exploration.

We’ll begin with the basic strokes and lowercase forms, followed by connecting letters, uppercase forms, and exploring some variations. Through hands-on practice, historical context, and live demonstrations, you’ll learn how structure, spacing, and contrast bring this script to life—and how understanding these principles can open the door to personal expression.

This session is ideal for beginners or those looking to reconnect with traditional tools like the dip pen and ink. You’ll leave with a solid foundation, greater confidence in your strokes, and a deeper appreciation of how classical forms can evolve into your own expressive lettering voice. All materials are provided. No prior experience required.

Materials to participate in this class will be provided. They include:

  • Pen holder
  • Nikko G Nib
  • Sumi Ink (Moon Palace)
  • Handouts & Booklet
  • Writing paper

There will be a 30 minute meal break during this class. Be sure to bring a packed lunch or grab some take out from nearby so you can be back to class quickly. There are lots of options nearby.
