Have questions about intellectual property (IP)? Attend this interactive session to learn the basics and many of the nuances that every business, entrepreneur and inventor should be keeping in mind to protect their hard work. We will cover rules of the road spanning patent, trade secret, copyright, trademark, with ample examples and Q&A to help it stick. Avoid common traps that give away your valuable work for the benefit of others, and take practical steps to command your commercial relationships and drive them toward the most favorable outcome to you when it comes to intellectual property rights.

Jason Stirling is a Partner in the Corporate and Securities group at Pillsbury where he also serves as leader of the Life Sciences & Digital Health Industry Group. Jason specializes in corporate matters with a special focus on the life sciences and technology sectors. He is particularly dedicated to fostering the growth and success of early-stage companies.
With a diverse clientele encompassing startups, emerging growth firms, and established publicly traded corporations, Jason's expertise extends across a broad spectrum of industries, including life sciences, technology, software, robotics, gaming, manufacturing, and food and beverage. His practice spans a wide range of services, including private securities offerings, convertible debt financing, angel investor financings, venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, technology licensing, joint ventures and collaborations, equity incentives, and corporate governance matters.
Jeff Sheriff | Counsel, Pillsbury Law | LinkedIn
Jeff Sheriff performs various tasks related to patent prosecution, including all aspects of preparing and prosecuting patent applications. Jeff also provides opinions, and counsels clients in many areas of intellectual property law.
The scope of Jeff’s practice includes advice on patentability, patent strategy, patent portfolio development, and patent infringement. Jeff has a deep technical background with years of engineering research, process development, pilot manufacturing and operations management experience. As a former engineer and inventor, Jeff can provide practical assistance to clients. He relies on his diverse technical background to provide advice on a broad range of subjects.
Jeff has expertise in mobile applications, virtual space and environments, business management software, blockchain technology, mechanical devices, unique materials, wireless communication systems, user interfaces, emergency monitoring and safety equipment, neural networks, image processing and virtual and augmented reality. In addition, Jeff has researched and developed nitinol stent and filter products approved by the FDA. He also developed and produced various aspects of an x-ray visible, biodegradable, slide and lock polymer stent through animal and first in man clinical trials in a startup company environment.

Directions to The Basement:
This event is located on the first floor of the Design and Innovation Building (DIB). The entrances are located across from the Structural Materials and Engineering building or next to the UC San Diego Central Campus Station bus and trolley stop.
MTS Trolley
The easiest way to get to the DIB is by taking the MTS trolley UC San Diego Blue Line and getting off at the UC San Diego Central Campus stop. The trolley stop is a short 1 minute walk to the DIB.
Parking
Public transportation is highly recommended as parking is limited on campus. If you plan to drive to campus, please give yourself plenty of time. You can download the ParkMobile app to pay for your space digitally once you find a spot.
