About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Learn how to create and contribute observations for the global scientific community by using iNaturalist. In this workshop, we'll explore both the website and smartphone app of iNaturalist —a community-based education and science organization for those curious about nature, interested in improving their familiarity of local organisms and sharpening their identification skills. Part of this class will be inside and part outside on the grounds. Photography is an important element when creating these natural observations. Receive first-hand practice as we walk through RSPP and learn how to take clear, concise photographs that optimize your subject. This class will also briefly cover SEEK, an app that uses the iNaturalist database but does not require you to make an account. Cost: $4. Parking: $6 per vehicle.

Organized by

Rockefeller State Park Preserve was created through several farsighted and generous gifts to the State of New York by the Rockefeller Family since 1983. It is designated as a “park-preserve” to highlight and protect its natural, historical, and cultural values. Its network of carriage trails wind through scenic forests, fields, and wetlands, which provide important habitat for native plants and wildlife.

The Preserve Office and Gallery are open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM and are located at 125 Phelps Way, Pleasantville, N.Y. 10570.
