Flapping Wings, snapping jaws and creepy fingers! Create automata and simple machines with a Halloween spooky theme.
We will explore basic engineering concepts to make things move. Working with recyclable and readily available materials, we will make our own haunted house full of things that crawl, flap and wiggle.
The curriculum of this program is aimed at middle school learners, and will explore things like cranks, pulleys, and cogs with some Halloween flair to make it fun. Please note that this class will require the use of scalpels, hot glue and super glue.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding simple machines

- Concept Development : Translating sketches into 3D objects
- Safe use of scalpels, box cutters, glue
- 2D / Surface design skills

- Students may be exposed to a dusty space with loud machinery.
- This workshop is held in a computer lab, which is only accessible by one flight of stairs.
