Intro to Dimensional Painting
Overview
Intro to Dimensional Painting is an exploratory class focused on creating three-dimensional abstract paintings using sculptural relief on canvas. Students will learn how to build up textured surfaces with mulberry paper and let the surface itself guide the composition. We'll also touch briefly on Surrealist ideas—especially Involuntary Sculpture—as a jumping-off point for working in 3D.
In the second session, students are invited to bring an inspirational reference, such as a scrap of fabric, a photo, or a landscape image. The instructor will help translate that inspiration into an abstract, dimensional painting.
You may leave with a finished piece or a strong work in progress—completion isn't the goal. This class is all about experimenting, getting comfortable with dimension, and playing with abstraction. All materials are included; just bring a box lid or shallow tray to carry your wet artwork home. Come ready to build, explore, and get a little abstract.
