"Data Scientist" has been named the top job in the U.S. for two years in a row (and boasts a six-figure salary!). Curious what it's all about? We're offering a free workshop for women interested in learning about data science!
This workshop for undergraduate women provides an introduction to data science at the absolute beginner level — no prior experience required!
We welcome women of diverse backgrounds and especially encourage those who may never have considered computing or progamming as a possible career path.
In this full-day workshop, you will:
-
Learn the basics of organizing data in a way that computers can understand
-
Get started working with the "R" programming language
-
Receive friendly teaching support from women working & doing research in data science or related fields
-
Enjoy an interactive lunch panel featuring women in a variety of jobs whose work involves data science

FAQ
How much does the workshop cost?
There is no charge for the workshop! OSDC has graciously provided funding to cover all costs.
Do I need a computer or laptop?
Nope! The workshop will take place in one of USF's computer labs, so everyone will have access to a computer. (Feel free to bring your own if you want, though.)
Who can attend?
This workshop is organized as part of NumFOCUS's Diversity & Inclusion in Scientific Computing (DISC) program. It is open to currently enrolled undergraduates who identify as women or non-binary. Since at present 95% of open source contributors are men, at this time we ask that only folks who self-identify as women or non-binary register to participate. We believe that a diverse community is stronger, more vibrant, and produces better software and better science.
Are meals provided?
Yes, light breakfast, lunch, and snacks are provided. Please specify any dietary restrictions when registering.
Is there a Code of Conduct?
Yes. This event operates under NumFOCUS's PyData Code of Conduct.
What is NumFOCUS?
