Event description
Are you curious about coding? Have you heard jobs in the tech industry are growing & you want in? Join us for this hands-on workshop!

About this Event

Do you find yourself asking “what is coding anyway?” Is it a long series of 0s and 1s (hint: it’s so much more!)? Or maybe you’ve heard that coding and bootcamps unlock a treasure chest of career opportunities. Find out for yourself, by attending Grand Circus bootcamp’s hands-on, small group, instructor-led, free intro to coding workshop!

Anyone can be a developer. Whether you’re curious about a career switch or ready to dive into tech, this workshop is here to support you. We believe that anyone is able to learn coding and launch a career in technology. There are many job titles and opportunities that unlock once you’ve gained coding abilities. This FREE Intro to Coding Workshop is open to everyone and is designed for those who are curious about coding, but who have very little or no coding experience. Never seen a line of code before? No problem! Basic computer knowledge is required--that’s it.

We are excited to partner with the Literacy Center of West Michigan to facilitate the training of ESL students how to code - check out the scholarship offered by the Literacy Center here.

During this remote intro to coding workshop, students will be coding right along with their instructors; it is very hands-on. You will be working within a code editing website (codepen.io) while you’re video chatting and learning with the instructor in Zoom

Our workshops are taught by Grand Circus alumni who made the jump into a tech career. They are a wealth of knowledge about all things Grand Circus and the tech community - and they love to talk about both! Once you complete this workshop, you will have a solid understanding of next steps to become a developer through attending a Grand Circus Bootcamp.

The tech industry should reflect the diversity of our community.

The tech community too often is centered around majority experiences, and can present barriers of entry to those of us who are from minority backgrounds or haven’t seen ourselves represented in tech. Our workshops are one way we seek to reduce barriers for anyone who feels uncomfortable pursuing tech because they don’t see themselves represented in it. Our own bootcamps strive to be diverse representations of real-world communities, and our workshops are here for people of all backgrounds and orientations. We work to foster an inclusive and comfortable learning environment.
