Intro to Calligraphy Workshop
Overview
Throughout time, humans have been moved to express themselves visually, from pictures like those found in prehistoric caves to abstract symbols, to the first marks representing spoken language, to large volumes of carefully written sacred texts, to today’s hastily jotted cursive.
In this 3-hour Intro to Calligraphy class presented by Maureen P. Kane, VP Programs, Calligraphic Society of Arizona (CSA), we’ll adopt the slow, peaceful lettering style common from around 300 CE to medieval times: Uncial. We’ll use both a chisel-edged pen and a pointed brushpen to practice two versions of the rounded, calm letters of the Uncial hand.
Come prepared to slow down, breathe, and create two beautiful looks from one ancient alphabet! This special Sunday workshop will be held in the museum’s Community Room, light refreshments will be provided. Tickets are $20 and include a beginner’s kit to take home with you – reserve your seat by calling 480-350-5100 or book via Eventbrite (fees apply), space is limited.
