Intro to Bioplastics: Stained Bioglass

Intro to Bioplastics: Stained Bioglass

By Genspace NYC

Overview

Join us for a hands-on workshop to create stained bioglass! Learn about the art and science of bioplastics.

Imagine yourself as an alchemist creating stained glass with only compostable and renewable raw materials. What are the ingredients, colors, and textures of this “bioglass”? What can you discover about our physical and material environment with such a recipe?

Learn about the art and science of bioplastics by making a unique piece of stained bioglass! The first half of the workshop will be focused on introducing the theory and practice of creating kitchen-friendly bioplastics, along with case studies at the intersection of art, science, and design. The second half will be a hands-on activity on stained bioglass.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own mold/casting surface (silicone molds or yogurt lids work well). Please note that samples can be arranged for pick up from Genspace one week after the workshop.

This workshop is mask-required as a practice of community care.
