This 1.5 hour introductory mini course is instructor-led live via Zoom and is designed to teach students the fundamentals of digital hand-drawn animation. In this class you will learn 5 important principles of animation:


  • Timing
  • Follow Through
  • Squash / Stretch
  • Slow In / Slow Out
  • Arcs

Course Goals:

By the end of the class students will understand key aspects for effective animation and will have animated a simple digital character. The class will be fun, hands-on, interactive and discussion oriented. Maximum of 12 students in the class. We hope you can join in!

Target Audience:

  • Students in Grades 6-12

Instructor:
Stacia Black, 4th year 2D Animation student at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Silver Medal winner of the Scholastic Art Awards for her animation “Pals”. Director of Student Film "Naranja" , animator on SCAD Animation Studios production "Time Flies" and Director of 2025 Student Capstone Film "Bwinky".

While our animated drawing won't be as detailed as this jumping squirrel, students will learn the same principles designed to create it.

Frequently asked questions

I can't do this date. What are my options?

We will be adding two additional time slots for Instructor Led Zoom classes. And, in the near future we will be offering a self-paced pre-recorded version of the course. Email info@homehackercamp.com for more information on either of those options.

What kind of computer equipment will I need for the class?

You will need a device with Zoom to watch the class on. It can be a mobile device (phone/tablet), laptop or desktop. And, you will need a mobile device to do the drawing/animation on. It can be a smartphone or tablet. If you do not have a device to draw on, you can watch the course.

What devices is the animation software app compatible with?

The app is compatible with: iPads, Android devices, and Chromebooks.

What if I don't have a mobile device to download the app?

If you do not have a mobile device for drawing you can watch the course via Zoom without drawing on a device.

How many students will be in class?

There will be a maximum of 12 students in class. We are keeping the class size small to foster and encourage discussion and interaction.

What supplies will I need for the class?

You will need a computer with Zoom to watch the course. In addition, we will be using an animation software app that will need to be downloaded from an app store to your mobile device. The app is free (with ads).

How do I get the animation software app?

We will send the app link to enrolled students for installation prior to the class start date.
