About this event

Government • Other

Understanding that interrogations take place in many different contexts, this class is designed to provide law enforcement personnel with the tools necessary to legally extract information from a subject regardless of where or why the encounter occurs. With a dual focus on criminal procedure (Miranda issues) and interrogation techniques, this class prepares the student for the realities of interrogations in both investigative and street police work.

Overview of Topics:

  • Mandatory vs. Strategic use of Miranda
  • What Constitutes “Custody”
  • What Constitutes “Interrogation”
  • Permissible Use of Deception by Law Enforcement
  • Street Encounters and the Interrogation Room in Context
  • Promises & Threats
  • The Public Safety Exception
  • Invocations & Waivers
  • Consensual Encounters vs. Terry Stops vs. Custodial Arrest
  • Building Rapport to Disarm the Detainee

PLEASE NOTE: Due to Minnesota state tax policy, transaction and service fees, all tickets must be paid for, even if the attendee fails to attend the training.
