About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

In honor of Pride Month, join us for an essential conversation bridging our Know Your Rights and Unpacking Hate programs. This session will focus on the unique challenges faced by queer South Asians in confronting hate and discrimination, exploring the intersectionality of identity and the compounded effects of racism and homophobia within and outside the South Asian community.

Key Discussion Points:

  • Understanding Intersectionality in the Queer South Asian Experience: Learn about the concept of intersectionality and how it applies to the experiences of queer South Asians. Understand the layered challenges that arise from navigating multiple identities in a world often defined by rigid social categories.

  • Confronting Hate and Discrimination: Explore the specific forms of hate and discrimination faced by queer South Asians, both within their cultural communities and in broader society. Hear from experts and activists about the strategies being employed to address and combat these issues.

  • Building Supportive Communities: Discuss the importance of creating and sustaining supportive spaces for queer South Asians. Learn how community initiatives and advocacy can help foster acceptance, understanding, and resilience.

Organized by

South Asian American Policy and Research Institute (SAAPRI) and the South Asian American Justice Collaborative (SAAJCO)) have joined forces to present the Engaged Communities Series—a year-long multimedia initiative launching in April 2025. This collaborative series will feature webinars and podcasts that explore civil rights and key issues impacting South Asians and other affinity groups in the U.S. Through conversations with domain experts, we’ll unpack pressing challenges, examine their systemic roots, and share actionable strategies for community engagement.

This series is sponsored in part by the South Asian Bar Association of North America (SABA) Foundation.
