Interpretive Walk with John Terpstra

By The Reconnect Project

Overview

Discover the Iroquois Bar: Hamilton's Hidden Land Feature, with John Terpstra and Reconnect Hamilton

This November, we are delighted to host an interpretive walk with author and poet John Terpstra, as we continue exploring the natural and human features that make Hamilton so uniquely Hamilton – and celebrate the people who bring it to life (that’s you!).

What to expect:

John will guide us along the crest of one of the city’s hidden-in-plain-sight land features – the Iroquois Bar. Together, we’ll trace its path from the ravine where one of Hamilton's first settlers built his home, all the way to the bridge at the centre of the universe. Join us for this inspiring journey through landscape, history, and community connection.

Why join?

Connect with neighbours who want to understand the ground beneath their feet. Learn how Hamilton's geography tells the story of our community's past and future. Walk familiar streets with fresh eyes and discover what's been hiding in plain sight all along.

About our guide:

John Terpstra is a poet, writer, retired woodworker, author of “Falling Into Place”, a book about Hamilton’s geography, and winner of the city’s 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts.
